Fundraising

An integral part of the weltwärts-program is that the volunteers have to set up a group of sponsors that is willing to donate a certain amount to the sending organisation in order to cover a part of the arising expenses. 75% of the weltwärts-program are government-funded and the remaining 25% (2500€) should be covered by the sponsors. Sponsors can be both organisations and private persons. There also are other possibilities to collect the required amount. Along with a friend I organised a charity party for example and I presented my intention and collected donations during a service of the Luther-Church in my home town – there are no limits placed on your creativity. The main idea behind the fundraising is to spread the idea of complimentary commitment and of weltwärts. In return to the donation the volunteers should try to involve their sponsors into their project as good as possible.

At first 2500€ sounds like a lot of money and many people wonder if it really conforms to the accumulating costs. Concerning these doubts I can appease you: AFS is a charitable organisation and doesn’t gain any profit. Furthermore there really accumulate a lot of costs all through the year. The flights and the insurances have to paid, the on-site costs including pocket money have to be covered, 25 days of preparatory and debriefing seminars have to be disbursed and much more. Considering all these expense factors 2500€ don’t seem to be that much anymore, especially if you consider that it is for a whole year.

At this point I would like to thank all of my generous sponsors, because this whole year wouldn't be possible without you:
